From Collie Clerk to King Eddie: Meet Jayme, one of our Homegrown Heroes and Amazing Neonatal Nurses

Neonatal nurse Jayme Anderson is helping care for our tiniest patients after forging a successful career in WA Health.

Jayme, who was born in the Pilbara and grew up in the South West, is proud of her Aboriginal culture with links to both the Njamal people in the Pilbara and the Nyikina people in the Kimberley.

Jayme has built her career over the last 12 years from the ground up after starting out as a trainee office clerk at the Collie Hospital at the tender age of 16.

She made the leap from corporate to clinical work after being inspired by the many ‘great nurses’ she met while doing administrative work and a desire to help people.

Jayme then trained as an adult nurse after completing a Diploma of Nursing through Marr Mooditj and later returned to complete further study in the enrolled nurse early practitioner program.

This additional qualification facilitated Jayme’s next career transition from adult nursing at the Bentley Health Service to neonatal nursing at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

“I’m finding working as a neonatal nurse very rewarding,” Jayme reveals.

“After all my roles in health, I love helping care for our most precious patients and supporting their families.

“I have expanded my nursing knowledge and gained specialised clinical skills whilst being supported by a great team of experienced neonatal nurses and staff development nurses,” Jayme said.

Jayme is looking forward to continuing her studies and working towards a registered nursing qualification in the future.
