The Aboriginal Health Council, in collaboration with Rural Health West, hosted a two day forum on ACCHS Ear Health at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel on June 1 and 2, 2023. During the event, Member Service representatives shared positive news stories and discussed the great work in the regions to prevent hearing loss and promote healthy ears within communities.
Moorditj Koort provided an overview of their ear health program and the successful collaborations they have developed with Member Services, mainstream hospitals, and external stakeholders to reduce surgery wait times in the Metro region.
Broome Aboriginal Medical Service presented its ear health program and the launch of Your Journey in Ear Health booklets and videos to educate and share information about ear screening checks to maintain healthier ears within their community.
Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service Corporation highlighted the World Hearing Day event they hosted in Beagle Bay and Broome Member Service clinics, which celebrated and involved stakeholder representatives from both communities. The KAMSC hearing health program aligns with the ACCHS Model of Care and implements all dimensions of the model to provide excellent service in Kimberley.
Nirrumbuk Environmental Health delivered a comprehensive summary of their role in Kimberley communities, where they assist with environmental factors that may impact various health issues, including the growing problem of Otitis Media. Promotion and education are essential to help provide healthy and safe community environments.
